Put your physics knowledge to the test with the ultimate heat engine. Watch as the radiometer spin when exposed to heat and decipher the mysteries of why this occurs. A mystery that baffled scientists for centuries.
The Crookes radiometer consists of a glass bulb where most of the air has been removed creating a partial vacuum. Fur balanced vanes are contained inside the bulb, polished on one side and black on the other.
Expose the radiometer to artificial light and heat, or sunlight and observe as the vanes begin to spin without any apparent motive power. Once the radiometer starts to cool, the vanes will commence spinning in the opposite direction.
What's included: 1 x Crookes Radiometer - no batteries required
Dimensions: 400mm x 250mm x 235mm
This product makes a great classroom teaching resource, and can be used in classroom activities that align to the Australian Curriculum.
