A finger trap is a simple yet intriguing toy that operates on the principle of friction and tension. It consists of a woven tube that appears to be narrow but can actually expand.

When a finger is inserted into each end and pulled apart, the trap tightens around the fingers. This effect occurs due to the interaction between the woven material and the fingers. As the fingers are pulled outward, the woven material tightens due to the increase in tension and friction. The harder one tries to pull their fingers out, the more the trap constricts.
