Smallpox is caused by the variola virus which translates to “spotted” in Latin. This is due to small, bumps that appear over the face and body.
This deadly disease originates in Ancient Egypt and has killed millions of people. The clever and lethal virus invades a human cell and forces it to reproduce the virus until there are thousands of viruses inside the cell. Symptoms include a high fever, red pus filled blisters and oozing sores. Giant Microbes make excellent teaching aids as they assist students to develop an understanding of biology while taking a fun, hands on approach.
Not for children under three years of age as parts may dislodge and become a choking hazard.
Smallpox is 120 x 150 x 60mm and is made of short-pile polyester plush in blue with a green frill and red detail, with polyester filling and plastic eyes.
