Leprosy is an ancient disease, first discovered in 1500 BC and manifests in skin sores, nerve damage and bulbous nodules. It is a commonly feared disease due to it causing disfigurement and deformities. In ancient times, victims of the disease were ostracised from society and forced to bear warning bells on their body. In the 1960’s they developed a treatment to eliminate the disease, however it still lingers in some areas of the world today. Giant Microbes make excellent teaching aids as they assist students to develop an understanding of biology while using a fun, hands on approach.

Leprosy is 180 x 70 x 60mm and is covered in grey polyester plush with polyester fibre filling and plastic eyes. It comes with a velcro flap to show what’s underneath.
