The T4 bacteriophage is a virus that infects bacteria, in particular Escherichia coli. The six long tail fibres hold onto the bacterial cell. The T4 then injects viral DNA into the cell. The bacterial cell replicates the virus until it bursts and dies. This releases many more T4 bacteriophages to infect more bacteria. T4 has been involved in molecular biology including Nobel Prize winning research.
Giant Microbes make excellent teaching aids as they assist students to develop an understanding of biology while taking a fun, hands on approach.
Not for children under three years of age as parts may dislodge and become a choking hazard.
T4 Bacteriophage is 210mm high, up to 180mm wide (adjustable) and 55mm thick, made of purple, brown and black short pile polyester plush with polyester filling and plastic eyes. Contains wire stiffening.
