Just about everyone gets pimples at some time, and nobody likes them, but what's not to like about this furry version? This bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) is very fond of oily deposits in skin pores and hair follicles and causes red spots.
Italian scientists recently discovered a new type of this bacterium living on grapevines. They named it Propionibacterium acnes type Zappae as a tribute to the composer Frank Zapper as well as the Italian word for hoe - Zappa. Investigations suggest that the bacteria were transferred from human to plants around 7, 000 years ago.
