HCV is perhaps the most dangerous Hepatitis virus: no vaccine is available and it causes severe liver damage in 70% of infected people, who may not even know they have it.
Hepatitis has many forms, and new ones are still being identified. Some have vaccines available, some are mild and some are deadly. While Hepatitis C is often found without obvious symptoms, the Giant Microbe's yellow colour (including the eyes) is a reference to jaundice, commonly associated with liver problems. (Newborn jaundice is different!) Jaune is French for yellow.
Giant Microbes make excellent teaching aids as they assist students to develop an understanding of biology while taking a fun, hands on approach.
Not for children under three years of age as parts may dislodge and become a choking hazard.
Hepatitis C is 100mm high, 100mm wide and 100mm thick, made of yellow medium pile polyester plush with polyester filling and plastic eyes. It has a red and yellow awareness ribbon embroidered on the left side.
