Chagas disease is mostly spread by insects called Triatominae (or kissing bugs because of their tendency to bite their victims!) and commonly occurs in Central and South America. Symptoms change throughout the infection with early symptoms including a temperature, headache and swelling at the bite location. A victim may not suffer from any further symptoms; however, some people will suffer complications leading to heart failure up to 30 years after the initial infection.
