No-one wants bad breath (Porphyromonas gingivalis), unless it's this furry version! Bad Breath
Most people think onions, spicy food and not brushing your teeth will give you bad breath. In a way, they're right, but not directly. Some of the microbes that normally live in our mouths produce smelly sulphur compounds and like to hide behind plaque or food scraps. Onions and many spicy foods contain lots of sulphur, so onions plus not brushing equals bad breath. One for the dental hygiene set! Or maybe a gentle hint?
Giant Microbes are also excellent teaching aids as they assist students to develop an understanding of biology while taking a fun, hands on approach.
