Who else loves their immune system? Antibody? Antibody?
An important microbe to have, an antibody is produced by the immune system when it detects harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and parasites (called antigens) within the body’s system. The antibody identifies and tags harmful antigens to allow other parts of the immune system to attack them or can defuse antigens directly by itself. The immune system sometimes mistakes healthy tissue as harmful and will produce antibodies to attack this tissue, this is called an autoimmune disorder.
Giant Microbes make excellent teaching aids as they assist students to develop an understanding of biology while taking a fun, hands on approach.
